Second Trade Hub/RERA Regulatory Practitioners Training Course Completed

energyThirty participants from eleven countries attended the Second Regulatory Practitioners Training Course in Namibia from July 16-20, 2012. The training was sponsored by SATH, and held in collaboration with the Regional Electricity Regulators Association (RERA) and the Electricity Control Board (ECB) of Namibia. The objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of regulatory institutions and regulators to promote and deploy clean energy in the region.

The course covered a number of topics of interest to energy regulators: tariff design; enabling framework for attracting and regulating investments; managing risk in the electricity industry; translation of power quality data to network performance; integrated resource plan strategies; renewable energy resources and experiences; regulatory tools to support renewable energy deployment and investment; encouraging energy efficiency and demand management; and regional energy regulatory cooperation.

As part of its program to encourage private sector investment in renewable energy through the creation of appropriate regulatory frameworks, SATH is planning similar training events for regulatory agencies, government officials and private sector which will focus on clean energy finance and renewable energy policy.
