Albert Makochekanwa
Trade Analyst
Dr. Albert Makochekanwa, Trade Analyst at the USAID Southern Af-rica Trade Hub, has more than eight years experience in trade policy analysis, trade policy formulation, trade negotiations and implementation, regional integration and development issues.
At SATH, Albert will assist in conducting research and analysis on non-tariff barriers and intra-regional trade in the SADC region. Over-all, his work is expected to help strengthen the capacity of the SADC Secretariat to effectively implement and monitor the implementation of the SADC Free Trade Area as well as increase regional economic integration.
Prior to joining SATH, Albert worked with the Commonwealth Secre-tariat’s ‘Hub & Spokes’ Project from, 2008 to 2010, as a Trade Policy Analyst and was deployed to the Government of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Industry. From 2203 to 2004, Albert worked as Trade Economist with Competition and Tariff Commission and also as a Trade Researcher with the Trade and Development Studies (Trades) Centre.
Albert has also acted as a consultant to the following organizations, with which he produced technical and policy documents: (1) World Bank Institute (WIB) Washington DC, USA; (2) Trade and Industrial Strategies (TIPS of South Africa) and AusAID, (3) Center for Global Development (CGD), Washington DC, USA; (4) United Nations Chil-dren’s Fund (UNICEF), Harare, Zimbabwe; (5) African Economic Re-search Consortium (AERC), Kenya; (6) Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), Canada; (7) University of Mauritius (UoM), Mauritius; and (8) Trade and Development Studies Centre, Zimbabwe, among others.
Albert has a Ph.D. Degree in Economics from the University of Pretoria, South Africa; a Master of Science (MSc) in Economics Degree from the University of Zimbabwe; an Honors in Economics Degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Certificate in Project Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
