Gender Integration Specialist

Nomasomi Mpofu is the USAID Southern Africa Trade Hub's Gender Integration Specialist.

She is a program and project management specialist with extensive program and project design, development and management experience across a number of sectors, in several countries in the Southern Africa region. Her primary responsibility has always been the promotion of gender equality and equity and women's empowerment.

Nomasomi has worked for the public sector in Zimbabwe and international development NGOs (Practical Action and Hivos Foundation). She also served in various capacities with the United Nations Development Program in Zimbabwe, including as an Assistant Resident Representative with responsibility for gender mainstreaming. These experiences have enabled her to gain experience in the management of aid and the provision of upstream advisory services.

Prior to joining the Southern Africa Trade Hub in February 2011 she was working as an Independent Development Consultant undertaking project evaluations, program proposal formulation in the areas of community development, gender mainstreaming and HIV and AIDS.

She has served on the boards of a number of NGOs that deal with gender and development issues.

She holds a B.A (Hon) – Geography from the University of Leicester and an M.A Degree - Environmental Planning for Developing Countries from the University of Nottingham, both in the United Kingdom.
