04 June 2011

SATH was invited to participate in the Trans Kalahari Corridor Management Committees (TKCMC) Meeting held in Gaborone from May 16-20, 2011. The meeting reviewed progress in the implementation of the TKCMC Action Program on the corridor.

Mr. Godwin Punungwe, Senior Transport and Trade Facilitation Advisor made a presentation to the meeting on SATH's Integrated Border Management (IBM) Program. IBM can bring immediate reductions in the time and cost of transportation in the region as well as form a good foundation for the implementation of other trade facilitation initiatives like the One-Stop Border Posts and Regional Single Window by ensuring there is coordination amongst border agencies for effective and efficient border clearance procedures. Mr. Punungwe informed the meeting that SATH will be undertaking consultations with all relevant Stakeholders in countries where IBM is planned to be implemented which include Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia.
